How To Remove Fixodent Denture Adhesive In 3 Steps
Knowing how to remove denture adhesive from your gums and dentures after each use is essential to make the most of your denture wearing experience. Read on to become a denture adhesive remover expert!
STEP 1. LOOSEN THE ADHESIVE.
To help loosen up the seal of the adhesive, gargle with warm salt water for 30 seconds, spit it out into the sink, then rinse and repeat a couple of times, until most of the adhesive is washed from between your dentures and gums.
STEP 2. REMOVE YOUR DENTURES.
First, take out the bottom denture. Begin by holding the middle part between your thumb and middle finger, and gently loosen the denture with a back and forth motion. When you feel the denture start to come away, gently pull up and out. Repeat the same back and forth motion with your top denture until you feel the denture release, when you should push up and outwards, taking care not to hurt your gums. Rinse your dentures clean of denture residue with lukewarm water and brush them clean with a soft-bristled toothbrush before soaking them in a denture cleaning solution.
STEP 3. CLEAN YOUR GUMS.
To get rid of the sticky feeling on your gums after you remove your dentures, just gargle some warm salt water, then rinse and repeat a couple of times. Gargle for a minute each time to wash away any remaining residue. If the adhesive still won’t budge, gently brush your teeth and gums with a soft-bristled toothbrush, a small dollop of toothpaste and hot water, just like you normally would. Alternatively, you can try gargling with mouthwash instead of water. Mouthwash loosens the adhesive residue, while also giving you fresh breath.
The Importance Of A Good Night’s Sleep
Another tip to improve your relationship with your dentures: while you can use Fixodent denture adhesives every day, for optimal gum health you have to let your gums rest for at least six hours after you’ve removed your dentures and cleaned the adhesive. A good night’s sleep is the key to a healthy mind and a happy mood, so rest your gums too!
