67% of women surveyed said they smiled more often with their new dentures.

One of the reasons many women can become depressed about the prospect of switching to full or partial dentures is that they associate it with getting older. However, not only is the average age of denture wearers in the UK just 43, many women find that they gain a significant confidence boost from their new teeth. 67% of women polled admitted to smiling more often with their new dentures.
To feel even more confident, try using denture adhesive cream as part of your everyday routine.

Once you’ve made the adjustment, your new dentures will just be another part of your beauty regime along with skincare and makeup. Looking after yourself and your appearance can not only improve your confidence, it can also protect your health and slow down the signs of ageing.

In addition to caring for your new dentures, try applying our collection of health and beauty tips to boost self-esteem and help you to look and feel fantastic both inside and out. Learn more about using denture adhesive.

Beauty tips for looking and feeling your best at any age

Skin and Eyecare

  • Wear UVA/UVB sunscreen. UVA rays age skin and can actually penetrate glass. If you work in an office near a window or have a long commute in the car, wear a sunscreen.
  • Glow don’t tan. Tanning is incredibly damaging. Opt for a natural looking self-tanner which will also help to prevent blue freckles, brown spots and spider veins.
  • Wear sunglasses. They not only look chic, they protect the eyes
and area around them from sun damage.
  • Rethink your skincare.  Proven de-agers such as antioxidants, retinol and AHAs can improve the surface, plump and minimise the discolouration of your skin.
  • Be serious about your skin.  Keep an eye on any moles, brown spots, facial hair and pre-cancerous lesions you may have. Visit a dermatologist or doctor if necessary.

Diet and lifestyle

  • Eat healthy food and veg. Ensure you get your five-a-day, every day. Colourful fruit and vegetables contain antioxidants that protect tissues and keep arteries, skin and brain cells healthy.
  • Cut out the bad fats. Saturated fats can clog arteries, cause heart disease, dementia and increase  the risk of cancer and age your skin. Good fats, like Omega-3, can reduce ageing, keep your arteries supple and brain cells sharp.
  • Eat whole grain. Refined grains can be fattening and increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. 100% whole grain breads, brown rice and oatmeal can lower the risk.
  • Go natural. Processed foods tend to be higher in calories, salt, fat and sugar and lower in vitamins, fibre, minerals, vitamins and phytonutrients. Eat fresh and unprocessed or frozen.
  • Supplement your diet. Take a multivitamin if you’re not eating healthily and supplement it with extra magnesium and calcium. Maybe also take extra Vitamin D, fish oils or DHA too.
  • Exercise every day. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, exercise daily. An hour of quality exercise each day also makes you happier, lowers the risk of disease and can reduce the signs of ageing.

Hair and make-up

  • Keep it natural. Plenty of movement in your hair and a relaxed look can work wonders and compliment both long hair, layered bobs and tousled short hair.
  • See hair colour as makeup. Brunettes should try multi-coloured yet low-key highlights. If you’re blonde, break up the colour for a natural sunny effect. Warmer colours and highlights soften facial lines and suit paler skins.
  • Use colour enhancing shampoos. This prevents colour fade between touch ups by adding a little colour. Use a glaze to add shine and vitality to dry hair.
  • Intensify your eyes. Match your eyeliner with a dark shadow topcoat. Apply a dark shadow over your liner with a firm flat liner brush or foam-tip and keep a clean line.
  • Power up with eyeliner. Apply eyeliner for bigger wide-awake eyes. This firms up sagging drooping lids as mascara alone simply isn’t enough.
  • Thicken your brows. Fill in and correct thinning eyebrows for a more youthful look. Try a waxy balm and a powder brow filler if you have patchy spots.
