Different Types of Partial Dentures

Thomas, 35, is considering dentures for his missing teeth.

Thomas: I asked my dentist what type of partial dentures should I get to replace my missing teeth and he recommended removable partial dentures. I don’t know much about them, though, so I was wondering if you could tell me about some of the benefits of removable partials?

Dr.Fixodent: A removable partial denture usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a gum-coloured plastic base. These are sometimes connected by a metal frame that holds the denture in place in the mouth. Precision partial dentures are more natural looking, connecting to the adjacent crowns via internal attachments rather than clasps. These days flexible removable partial dentures are becoming more and more popular. They are more comfortable to wear and they look more realistic compared to non-flexible partials. They’re also thin, lightweight and fracture-resistant, and offer cosmetic improvement to neighbouring teeth that might appear elongated due to gum recession.

Thomas: Hmm, I like the sound of that! So, what are the other benefits of partial dentures?

Dr. Fixodent: Basically, they make it easier for you to speak and chew, they prevent the remaining natural teeth in your mouth from moving out of place, and they ease the stress on your jaw. Most importantly, partial dentures give you the confidence to smile and live a more carefree life.

Thomas: If I get removable partials, will they stay in place?

Dr. Fixodent: By using denture adhesives you can secure your partials and ensure they stay where they’re supposed to. Denture adhesives also create an airtight seal that keeps food particles out from between your dentures and gums. This prevents irritation and other issues such as bad breath and painful gums. Fixodent’s denture adhesives are known for their long-lasting hold. Fixodent Microseal for Partials: It comes with an ultra-thin nozzle, so it’s easier for you to apply the adhesive to your partials.

Thomas: Doctor, you’ve cleared up a lot of things, thank you!

Dr. Fixodent: Always happy to help!
