Question:  How long should I leave new upper denture in before leaving it out overnight.

Jul 21, 2010 5:48 pm

Thank you for contacting Fixodent Denture Living. The dentist or prosthodontist who made your dentures will provide instructions about how long they should be kept in, but during the first few days, you may be advised to wear them most of the time, including while you sleep.

After the initial adjustment period, your dentist may advise you to remove the dentures before going to bed, which allows gum tissues to rest and promotes oral health. Ideally, dentures should be removed for a minimum of eight hours a day so that the tissues of your mouth have the opportunity to rest and recover.

Question:  what type of toothpaste do I use to clean dentures

Jul 20, 2010 1:32 pm

Thanks for writing! You can brush your dentures with very warm water using a stiff denture brush, denture paste or regular toothpaste.

Hope this helps!

Question:  After I apply the fixodent and install my denture, how soon can I eat?

Jul 12, 2010 6:39 pm

Thanks so much for writing. You should wait at least 30 minutes after applying Fixodent to eat or drink. Hot food and liquids can break down the effectiveness of a denture adhesive.

Hope this helps!

Question:  Is Fixodent Gluten Free?

Jul 12, 2010 5:18 pm

We don't add gluten to Fixodent, but it's possible there may be a trace amount in the product due to the raw materials used to make it.

Question:  How do you take the dentures out once Fixodent has been applied?

Jun 01, 2010 2:09 pm

Thank you for contacting Fixodent Denture Living. To remove your dentures, swish mouth with warm water or a mouthwash like Scope. Warm water will help loosen the seal. For the bottom denture: Pull slowly on the denture (do not jerk) while applying a rocking motion. For the upper denture (Removal may be more difficult- more surface area): Place thumb against the inside front teeth. Press upward & outward toward your nose.

If the suggestions above don't work:

Rinse the mouth again with warm water and try blowing up a balloon or blowing a whistle.

Bite into a firm piece of fruit or vegetable, like an apple or an ear of corn.

Avoid using any object except your fingers (not your fingernails) to pry the denture loose to avoid injury.

Wait overnight if your airway is not compromised (no difficulty breathing, dentures not blocking airway, etc.) and try again in the morning after a cup of coffee or tea.

If you do not have success with these techniques and you are uncomfortable leaving your denture in overnight, you could seek assistance in a hospital emergency room or a 24-hour dental service.
