Question: how do I clean my new upper dentures?
Jul 30, 2010 4:26 pm
In order to minimize staining, it's important to properly clean your dentures every day to remove food deposits and plaque.
The first step in cleaning dentures is to rinse away loose food particles thoroughly. Moisten the brush, a soft-bristled toothbrush is preferable, and apply denture cleanser. Brush every surface, scrubbing gently to avoid damage. Also, your dentures may be soaked in denture cleansing solution that is available over-the-counter at your local pharmacy. Make sure to follow the directions on the cleanser closely. If your dentures have a soft lining layer on the inner surface of the denture, you may not be able to use these denture cleansing solutions. If you have further questions about exactly how to cleanse your dentures or if you may use a cleansing solution, ask your dentist or prosthodontist.

Question: i've had all my teeth pulled, 1 week ago, but still sore. how long will it take to heal?
Jul 27, 2010 11:48 am
Thanks for writing. The areas where the extractions were performed may be painful or uncomfortable for up to several weeks after the removal of the teeth. Regular visits to your dentist or prosthodontist as you go through the normal healing process are recommended.
Hope this helps!

Question: why do I need fixodent? Shouldn't my dentures fit well enough without it?
Jul 26, 2010 6:51 pm
Thank you for contacting Fixodent Denture Living. There are a number of published clinical studies showing adhesives actually improve the performance of properly-fitting dentures. There is also clinical data showing adhesives help reduce irritation and sore spots caused by denture rub.
Remember, while dentures are rigid, mouth tissue is soft and changes over time so dentures don't always fit the same.

Question: how much fixodent do you put on lower dentures?
Jul 23, 2010 6:41 pm
Thanks for writing. You can start by applying a few strips or dashes of Fixodent on your lower denture. Put the Fixodent on the part of the denture surface that touches the gums. Do not apply too close to denture edges. You may need to experiment to see what amount of product is best for you. If oozing occurs, use a little less product.
Hope this helps!

Question: I chew gum, but after chewing there is always a build up of residue between my teeth. This residue is seemingly getting worse. Do I have to stop chewing gum?
Jul 22, 2010 5:00 pm
Thanks for writing! You may want to try a sugarless gum which can help minimize the residue and stickiness. You can also try a gum like Freedent which is designed not to stick to most dental work.
